Arborist Services for the Hudson Valley
Many types of tree damage can be prevented
It's not always obvious when something is wrong with your trees, particularly when it’s an internal problem or an issue with the tree’s structure and shape.
Put your mind at ease with a thorough risk assessment from a Hill Treekeepers arborist. We can also help protect you and your trees with specialty services like cabling and lightning protection systems.

SUPPORT FOR MATURE & HISTORIC TREES
Cabling & Bracing
Cabling and bracing are ways to hold your tree together so it doesn't drop branches or split apart, particularly during violent weather.
We use cables to support branches so they don't move around as much and are less likely to break during a storm. Rods can be inserted through several branches or tree trunks (where they're weak and likely to split) to support tree limbs and limit the degree of twisting that can happen during high winds.
KEEP YOUR FAMILY SAFE
Tree Hazard Assessments
Without proper care, hazardous trees can cause thousands of dollars in damage to your home. Every 2-4 years we recommend having the valuable trees in your landscape inspected by a professional arborist. Our arborists and certified tree experts are trained to detect signs of insect damage, disease, and environmental stress, and to identify potentially dangerous structural defects. Hill Treekeepers will provide you with a detailed report of findings and recommended action plan, if warranted.
Our tree experts will examine your trees and provide you with a written hazardous tree assessment that details any structural or disease problems. Instead of removing potentially dangerous trees, we are often able to install cabling and bracing to support weak main crotches or defects so that you will be able to enjoy your mature trees for many years to come.
PROTECT YOUR VALUABLE TREES
Pre-Construction Inspections & Tree Surveys
To avoid possible damage to your valuable trees, call us during the design phase of your construction project. We can do a preconstruction evaluation to advise you on how the placement of a walkway, patio or building addition will impact your trees, and provide possible alternatives where appropriate. Often we will recommend deep root fertilization a year prior to construction to promote maximum health and offset potential construction damage.
Before you fill in or cut around a tree consider the damage you may be doing to the root system. Trees near construction projects are vulnerable to root abbreviation, damage, and soil compaction that can result in tree death. A good rule of thumb to avoid problems is to prohibit machinery and excavation underneath the crown of the tree.
Hill Treekeepers can provide a tree survey as required by your local government.
PLANT THE RIGHT TREE IN THE RIGHT PLACE
Tree Planting & Transplanting
Hill Treekeepers will also help you with planting new trees, we will recommend the species of trees and large shrubs that are appropriate for a specific location. The wrong tree in the wrong location could lead to future problems as a result of limited growing space, insects, diseases, or poor growth. Check out our blog post on seasons for tree planting.
We also will know what trees and shrubs are likely to flourish in the climate and conditions of the Hudson River Valley and environs so that you will be investing wisely in your landscape. Any plant that is unable to tolerate the conditions of the soil or the seasonal weather is going to be an expensive problem, no matter how much you really want that specific kind of tree. As certified arborists, we will be able to advise you so that your new addition will be a joy for years.
PREVENT SHORT-CIRCUITS & FIRES
Lightning Protection
The National Fire Protection Association recommends that you install a lightning protection system if:
- your trees are located within 10 feet of buildings, or
- your trees are taller than the nearby building(s) or have branches growing over the building(s)
Lightning protection systems not only protect the tree, they also reduce the chance of damage to buildings and the people and items inside (no one enjoys replacing fried electronics!).
The best time to fix a tree problem is before it starts. Otherwise, it's often too late to save the tree.
We work closely with all of our clients to prevent damage and focus on resolving issues early on. Hill Treekeepers offers several tree services in the Hudson Valley that can not only increase the health and safety of your trees but also prolong their lives.
